Ever since I read about Elsie Green (now with two locations), I’ve wanted to visit the shop. The proprietor’s real name is Laurie Furber, née Cain. “Elsie” comes from her initials “L.C.” And Green refers to the repurposed nature of her vintage wares. As her website says: “We believe that not making something new is the greenest thing of all.”

Furber was an executive at Pottery Barn before she launched her own business with her husband, purveying beautiful home goods that are mostly sourced through buying trips to France (sound familiar?). One shop is in Concord, and the newer location is in Sebastopol, both in northern California.

I was all set to visit the Sebastopol location when an enormous rainstorm caused severe flooding there. Unfortunately, the shop is still closed for repairs. But we can visit vicariously through these photos from the Elsie Green website. https://elsiegreen.com/ And as it soon as it reopens, I’ll be there to check it out in person!
