Kurt Vonnegut quote art

My husband and I ran into an old friend of his last weekend at an outdoor birthday party. We were seated at the same table (under a tent because of unexpected rain). We had a great time talking, and it was only after about 45 minutes that we realized who she was and that we knew each other from decades ago!

Recently retired, this woman works in her studio every day, painting, drawing, sculpting. Her husband plays three instruments. It was a welcome prod to spend time with these creative people and remind myself that I need to keep writing. No matter that I have a full-time job, I just got a promotion, and work is more demanding than ever. It’s still important to nurture that creative spark that resides within all of us.

That got me searching the web for more inspiration and I came across the website of James Clear. Lots of wisdom here: https://jamesclear.com/creativity.  I especially like this quote: “Creative thinking is not about generating something new from a blank slate, but rather about taking what is already present and combining those bits and pieces in a way that has not been done previously.”

So let your mind go in a new direction, whether it’s coming up with a more efficient process at work, redesigning your garden, inventing a new game with your kids, or dreaming up a new recipe. Who knows what you might create?
